Week 21: Learning Geography with the License Plate Game
Road trips with the kids can be a ton of fun. They can also be a great source for learning!
My family really enjoys playing the License Plate Game when we go on road trips. Watching out for license plates from all over the country is a fun activity we can all do together, and the License Plate Game from The Trip Clip makes it easy to keep track of which states you’ve seen.
But I can never miss an opportunity to do a little teaching! The Trip Clip lets you also print out a labeled map of the United States.
As you see license plates from different states while you’re on the road, have your kids locate the state on the map and color it in. They’ll learn some US geography, as well as learn the 2-letter postal codes for each state. And you’ll come home with a fun visualization of all the states you saw on your trip. The Trip Clip Clipboard is perfect for this activity:
You can also play this game with Canadian License Plates:
A few years ago we took a 3 week road trip with our 10- and 7-year old kids from Seattle to Illinois. We played the license plate game, and we were very close to filling up the whole map by the end of that trip!
