Welcome Packet For New Kindergarten Parents

This packet contains some helpful tips about how to get ready for your child to enter school. You can print the full packet for free on Teachers Pay Teachers.

The first list is a checklist to help you think through all of the things you should do before the first day of school arrives. There are lots of good suggestions in here to help you stay organized and help your kid settle into this big change for them!

This email tip is one you won’t want to miss. When your child starts kindergarten you will be filling out lots of forms, and all of them will want your email address. You’ll be able to enter multiple address for you and your spouse or your child’s guardian(s), but you can’t always control who gets emailed. Sometimes only the first entry is used, putting just one person (usually mom) in charge of paying attention to all communication from the school. To keep all the adults equally in the loop, set up a joint email address (google makes this easy) and set up that account to forward to all of the adults in the child’s life. My husband and I did this and used the joint email address at school and for all of our kids’ extra curricular and social activities. It worked great. You can read more here!

Parents and teachers can use this list to help kids stay healthy and focused at school. Giving them ideas of healthy options can help them make better choices than chips and cookies so they can keep up their energy through the whole school day.

The “Instead of How Was Your Day?” list offers some creative ways to get your kids talking about their day and hopefully avoid the favorite response of “Fine”. You can print this list and tape it to the inside of a kitchen cabinet door and pick one or two right before you sit down to dinner.

The “Parent Reward Chart” is a great reminder to take care of your kids and yourself through stressful times as everyone adjusts to school.
